Two new custom residential units, completed in 2023, dramatically define a corner lot in south Austin's Gallindo neighborhood. Unit A has 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths. Unit B has 2 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths. A continuous horizontal eave serves as the unifying architectural element, beginning as cover for Unit A's dining patio and entry, wrapping the corner to provide shade for that unit's large corner windows and carport, continuing over the walkway to the second unit and finally turning up to mark the entry to Unit B. Similarly, inside Unit A's living area, a cantilevered wood bench continues to become the fireplace hearth and the landing for the stair. In both units, painted vertical poplar slats create a screen wall at the stairs, bringing additional light to the interiors from large windows above. A warm neutral palette unifies the interiors: white oak floors, both rift cut oak and painted cabinetry, soft gray-green tile and Cloud White walls. The exteriors share a similar palette with warm white stucco; gray-green Hardi lap siding; dark bronze windows, doors and horizontal fascia boards; and clear finished cedar soffits.
